Now What? Ads in the John?

It started when someone tacked the daily paper in men's room above the urinals. The idea soon spread to the stall in the ladies room and a new form of advertising was born.

It is now so common place there are companies that represent thousands of "johns" to advertisers, giving each restaurant and bus stop owner a modest income for the use of walls and stalls.

In the never-ending quest to find ad space, some parking garages have sold painted billboards you have to stare at as you make your way to the end for another U turn while going up or down.

The newest trend is at the gas pump. What is there to do while you stand there holding the nozzle open wishing for the old days when the man who wears the star was taking car of your car (If you are too young to remember that one, I am sorry).

So what do you do while you stand there? Read the ad on the pump handle, of course. A pitch for cell phone minutes, or a tasty photo of a sandwich inside. Some more sophisticated stations have small TV screens next to the credit card slot on the pump that present a solid stream of color commercials, both local and national.

Radio used to be the only non intrusive advertising medium. Meaning that you could get the commercials while you did something else, as opposed to the newspaper that you had to look at to read and see the ads, or TV that requires you to sit and watch. But ads pasted to restroom stalls or over urinals or painted on garage walls and ads on pump nozzles are also non- intrusive. You are doing something else while you "get the message"

What can you do with your business to put your message where people can, and must, see it? Are you doing everything you can at your business to exploit empty space to make a sales point?

Grocery stores post their newspaper ad at the door. Many offer piles of flyers in case you left your coupons at home.

Big box stores have discovered the joy of covering a colorful ad with plastic and taping it to the floor so you have to walk on it and you aren't going to step on something unless you know its safe to do so. Gothca!

Big Political Races Mean Major Profits for Television Companies and Mass Media

When election races get tight for political party control of the government you have to stop and wonder who makes out like bandits? Well consider this if you will; the average American has surrendered their mind to the television set and to the mass media hysteria with all the chaos and controversy, as well as sound and fury.

Those that run for political office know this and they know that he who puts out the most ads on the television set and radio and gets the most print during the election will most likely win. But political ads cost a lot of money and that means they need big contributions.

Big Political Races mean major Profits for Television Companies and Mass Media. Political season is a time for huge quarterly profits, increased shareholders equity and incredible ratings for our mass media. After all, advertising is how the mass media makes their money and if they don't make money they would not be able to deliver the news.

It is estimated by media industry analysts that this political season more money will be spent on advertising than in any other single election in the history of the United States of America. Why you ask? Well there is a power struggle and the Democrats want to control of what the Republicans currently control and that means money to the media. Please consider all this in 2006.

Three Simple Conversion Tactics For Time-Starved Entrepreneurs

In my experience, entrepreneurs and business owners are some of the most time-strapped people on earth. They've got businesses to run, expenses to account for, and taxes to pay.

That's why I've put together these three simple "conversion tactics" that are bound to help you bring in more customers and increase your advertising ROI.

Let's begin, shall we?

1. Add a consumer trust web seal to your site.

Convincing a prospect to buy from your web site involves a few key ingredients. One of the most important ingredients is trust. Without trust you will not make a sale.

So the question becomes, how do you create enough trust so your prospect is comfortable buying from you? One very simple way is to use third-party credibility in the form of a consumer trust web seal.

Probably the most ubiquitous web seal is the Better Business Bureau logo. Their seal says "BBB Reliability Program." By displaying this, you are basically saying that the BBB has reviewed and approved of your site. Since consumers trust the BBB, and the BBB says they trust you, the consumer is more likely to trust you.

A newer web seal, which is more affordable than the BBB, is available through HONESTe Online. Although their seal is not as widely recognized as the BBB, split tests have shown that displaying the HONESTe Online consumer trust seal can instantly increase conversion rates by as much as 17.6%.

Lastly, I'll mention Scan Alert, the organization behind the green and black "Hacker Safe" web seals. While slightly different than the BBB and HONESTe Online, the use of the "Hacker Safe" seal has a similar effect. It's especially effective when placed on an order page where consumers are afraid of submitting credit card information. By telling them your site is "Hacker Safe," they will be more likely to complete the checkout process.

2. Use your real signature (or a signature that looks real).

As I said earlier, getting prospects to open their wallets and buy from you ultimately hinges on trust. That's why using your signature on your site is a simple yet effective means of increasing conversions.

Why does this work?

Because a signature is still used today as a legal tool. By signing a contract or legal document, you are in effect giving your word and promising to "make good" on what you've said. Furthermore, your signature is an oath that the information you've provided is accurate and complete to the best of your knowledge.

This is why signatures are so powerful.

Remember John Hancock? Of course, you do. He was the very first person to sign the U.S. Declaration of Independence. He made his signature much larger than everyone else did. Some say this was his custom. Others say it was so King George III could read it without his spectacles.

Either way, by signing his name to the Declaration of Independence, and "legally" promising his support of the new country, John Hancock's name is now synonymous with "signature."

On your site, consider using your real signature when you close a letter. Or, as some others have done, consider using your signature directly below the headline on your site. This puts it right up front where people can easily see it. And it builds trust from the very point that your prospect begins reading your sales letter.

Magnetic Advertising - The Only Way To Advertise

Thousands of companies over the years have wasted money on printing leaflets and flyers, only to find that most of them end up being thrown away, or put in a kitchen drawer never to be seen again. Let’s be honest, we all have a drawer in the house somewhere that is full of old takeaway menus! However, the good news is that times are changing. Many businesses are waking up to the idea that magnetic advertising, in all its different guises, is the only way to go.

When one considers that the average fridge door is opened approximately 30 times per day, it is then easy to see why fridge magnets are considered to be so effective. To illustrate this point consider that an order size of 1000 magnets would be seen approximately 30,000 times per day and an order size of 10,000 magnets would be seen nearly a third of a million times per day!

Remember that it is not just fridges that can be used but also boilers, filing cabinets, vehicles or any other steel surface. Indeed by advertising your company name and number on a magnetic vehicle sign, it allows you to advertise whilst you are traveling and therefore increase awareness of your company. Magnetic vehicle signs are just a small proportion of what you would have to pay to advertise by other means.

Another product available is the magnetic business card. Unlike conventional business cards which are usually kept in a wallet and ultimately forgotten about, a magnetic business card is likely to be placed on your customer’s fridge or filing cabinet. Therefore your company name and number will be continually on display and never forgotten about!

Ask yourself how many times your business has missed out on satisfied customers using your services repeatedly. The answer is a very simple one. Many people quite simply forget the name or phone number of your company. Therefore, for a small price you can make sure this never happens to your business.

Also ask yourself the following question. If someone was advertising on your fridge (eg a takeaway, plumber, tree surgeon, taxi company etc) are you going to look through the phone book for another phone number, or are you very likely to ring the number on your fridge that you have seen 30 times that day?!?

In conclusion, magnetic advertising, by whichever means, is a great way to stay one step ahead of your competition. Do not waste time and money on leaflets or flyers because we all know where they end up!! Do not risk your company advertising being put in the bin when it could be on display all day everyday in someone’s kitchen or office.

Writing The Best Possible Text Advert

So you've decided to spend some cash on a quick marketing blitz to get some more traffic to your website. The worst thing you could do now is waste that money.

Its essential to take your time when writing your text ads. You might only have 100-200 characters to work with, so make sure you follow the following tips and I'm sure your investment in this great advertising medium will pay off.

1. Make sure the ads you are writing are relevant to your audience. With AdQuick.co.uk, you choose what websites you advertise on, so you have a good idea what kind of people will see your ads. If the reason for your ad is more aimed at brand awareness ,then you can be a little more broad with the audience you aim your ads at.

2. Be a little bit naughty, look at what your competitors ads are like. Don't copy them, but by all means get some creative ideas to help your ad writing.

3. If the ad is advertising a certain offer of yours, make sure you send any potential customers who click the ad direct to that page on your website, and not just your homepage.

4. Be direct. Have you got an amazing deal or special offer? If so, then get the price in the ad somewhere. If you don't want to put the price in your ad, then at least make sure you get the actual offer in the ad.

5. DON'T USE CAPTIALS FOR EVERY LETTER IN THE HEADLINE. It annoys a lot of people and theres no need to shout. By all means use capital letters for each first letter in every word in your ads headline though.

6. Use the conversion tracking feature. This way you can get a good idea on how many sales or signups come as a result of your ad. You might have an amazing offer but if your ad isn't up to scratch you won't get anywhere, but with this vital feedback you can see what ads need more work.

7. Once you have done your research and you know which of your ads are working, make sure you don't just use the same ad over and over again. People will get bored of it and will just ignore it. Use a selection of different ads that you know work.

8. In a lot of ways the headline is the most important part of your ad. If you have 35-50 characters to work, this doesn't mean you have to use all 50. If you can get your message across in 6 words then that'll be brilliant. Don't try to make the headline an extension of your own sense of humour, by that i mean if you try to be funny, others might disagree and just not click through.

9. Don't rush, and use a spell checker. It might sound silly, but imagine how you'd feel if you realise that the reason why your ad that has just ended didn't get any click throughs because of bad spelling or grammar.

10. And finally, just a recap. Be direct, be simple, don't try to be smart, keep it short and don't rush

Create Yellow Page Ads that Hypnotize Customers Into Giving You What Ever You Want

Exactly how do you create an advertisement that stops a potential customer right in their tracks? One that gets them locked in a hypnotic trance from the moment they lay eyes on your ad until they grab the phone and feverishly dial in your number?

Would you like a specific answer? I'll lay out the exact process for you right here on this page.

OK, ...Lets suppose for a minute that you are a behind the steering wheel of your car driving toward your home right now. Its been a very long day at work and you have had one or two (or three) of your normal challenges with the people who can make your day a hassle.

You have been doing your job for years now but there are just some people who seem to set you back every time you have contact with them. So, your pretty frustrated today.

The sun is low near the horizon and ends up shining right in your face as you drive. But up ahead you can see that a school is letting out. Off to the right of the car, on the sidewalk, there is a kid yelling at another kid and teasing him about something.

One time, I was just getting out of grade school and this bully was taunting me. I was wearing a bright orange fluorescent crossing guard belt and this kid was giving me grief about how stupid I looked wearing it. I remember his face and the cruel way he was making fun of something I was somewhat proud of.

Oh.......by the way......a car has come to a DEAD stop right in front of you.

Did you hit it?

Or do you think you might have hit it? And what would you say to the nice police man? You might say you were distracted....but really, you were off on another planet.

So, what is the exact method for a captivating headline and directory ad? Let me pause for a moment, and cover a bit of background first.

Hypnotic trances aren't what many people think they are. Most feel they are a power or force that is imposed on a person that will cause them to do things they would never do otherwise. That's not an accurate way to look at what happens.

Its more that a person allows themselves to become involved in a train of thought that ends up capturing their complete attention. In this state, they will do things they would choose to do anyway. The only difference being that they are so captivated by a particular train of thought that they become unaware of their surroundings or that there is anybody else watching.

The result is behavior you'd not expect. People in a hypnotic state are open to outside input without many of the barriers we might normally use during the day to keep our defenses up.

Chances are good that you are reading this. ( That was a no-brainer statement.) One of the reasons you kept reading was that I proposed an intriguing idea - that I would lay down a clear and easy formula for getting the attention of a customer.

An unanswered question or statement is a big part of the hypnotic formula. Once the curosity is aroused then a person will stay glued until the mind has satisfied the missing element.

Another part of the formula is a story that people can relate to. The story should have specific details to guide the reader but the details should be universally familiar. Very specific, as if the event was taking place, but general enough that most everyone can relate to the details.

Can this be boiled down to a Yellow Page Ad? Yes. "The Story" in your ad might be "That old dusty water heater that needs replacing fast." Or maybe "Your life has been shattered by a Drunken Driver and you need legal help." Those are hypnotic statements to the potential customer. They tell a quick story that includes emotional elements that draw the desired reader to the first line of text.

The opposite of those two statements would be "We sell De-Grande Brand Water heaters for less." and "We legally represent you. Since 1814." These kind of "Ego" statements often represent the mind of the seller, but NOT the state of mind of the buyer.

The business owner might look at those statements and really relate to what it says. The customer will sail right past those ads because they have an entirely different thought train at that moment.

Writing a Hypnotic Yellow Page ad takes time and thought. By now your beginning to see that putting together together a winning and powerful yellow page ad takes a number of skills that go well beyond a thorough study of the Graphic Arts.

Cross Promoting and Price Collusion in Advertising

There seems to be loopholes in the advertising laws in the United States and first let me say I am not an advocate of more rules and regulations on advertising or marketing, there are way too many already. However, I have discovered an interesting cross promotion strategy that resembles unspoken price collusion that we see in marketing all the time.

First let me point out how gas stations, hotels and other such business check to see what the competition is doing every day and when one raises their price the others raise theirs as well only hold it just slightly under the highest price, thus creating an upward biased in pricing. It is a mild form of price collusion, which generally cannot be enforced and indeed it appears it is so commonplace in the market place that if cannot be stopped. Indeed proving someone was engaged in such common practice cannot even be proven beyond a shadow of a doubt.

Now then if two people in an similar sub-sector of an industry each write articles and promote the other or endorse them and they do not actually compete against each other, then they are effectively Buzz Marketing and there is nothing anyone can do about that, as there is no money transferring hands or even any contact to set up such a program.

The FTC does this all the time. They promote the BBB and the BBB promotes the FTC. But in reality the FTC knows that the BBB has committed fraud in telephone sales and does not go after them. And the BBB knows that much of the cases that the FTC brings is simply competitors in the marketplace making complaints. This is the cheating type of cross promoting that you can do in your business too. And that is my opinion.

Promote your Home Business by Starting Your Own Ezine

The internet takes many forms. From graphically rich web based software applications to bare bones text based message boards and chat rooms, the internet encompasses a wide range of technologies and communication techniques. One of the most popular forms of internet communication is the ezine, which is essentially an online magazine that does not have a print component. Since an ezine does not require physical printing, it is possible to create an ezine and distribute essentially limitless copies without incurring significant overhead costs.

Starting an ezine is a great method of internet marketing. By creating an ezine that is of interest to people who are interested in the goods and services that you provide (and judiciously listing your home business as the ezine creator or sponsor) you can begin to develop indispensable name and brand recognition for your home business. Unlike many other successful forms of internet marketing, starting and distributing an ezine is completely free, except for the costs of the software and network costs associated with its creation and distribution. These costs are typically negligible, so there is really no better option to grow your home business than starting your own ezine. Publishing an ezine tells your customers that you are at the forefront of your field and are dedicated to providing information to them that they can use with no strings attached.

When creating your own ezine, remember that it will do no good as an internet marketing vehicle for growing your home business if no one reads it. Therefore, it is highly important that your ezine feature high quality articles that will be read and appreciated by potential customers. It is possible to use the web to find writers for your ezine, many of whom will work for a marginal fee or for dateline inclusion alone. There are also many article portals that feature articles that you can use in your ezine free of charge.

How To Make a Fortune with Newspaper Classified Ads

These days, trying to make a fortune online or off-line to most people will seem like just an imaginary dream.

And of course to some people it's as easy as 1, 2, 3... And I'm not kidding... reason being, that's because those people have a serious plan of action.

And to give You a little secret here, it's actually one of my best secrets... What you need to do to be like these serious plan of action types of people would be to first of all decide how much money you are willing to invest along with how much time you are willing to put into it each day or each week.

For instance if You know that you have a really hot product that you know could sell like crazy to multiple markets including or let me re-phrase that, especially in newspaper classifieds, you need to make sure you do some research on how much time and money others a spending in advertising to newspaper classified ads.

So if you see that most people are spending about $50 a week testing their classifieds and are making some profits doing this, then maybe you should consider following their footsteps.

However if You feel that your product is a little bit more advance in terms of, it needs more funding to make some profits, then you may want to try testing by spending about $100 to $150 a week.

Keep in mind that in the preliminary stages of developing and testing your product it would also be nice to have at least $2,000 saved up. This may increase your chances of actually making a small fortune while you're still testing your classified ads to sell your hot product.

What I really mean by this is, suppose after just 5 tests of your classified ad that only cost you $100 each and you finally made some serious profits, that would mean it only cost $500 in total and you will still have $1,500 left to test more ads or to maybe try and improve your product so that it pulls with better results or it sells better.

That my friend, totally gets me excited to always do business, when I'm seeing results and I still have lots of money left over.

And lets say that you are selling a specific product or service to the people who normally read newspapers who are looking for what you are selling, that would even increase the profits of your newspaper classified advertising campaign even more because you are really targeting your market.

And that's one of the concepts that you will hear most when you are doing marketing and advertising in general. Always target your market. This will make testing your advertising a lot easier.

And to make a fortune doing this, you would continuously target your market, improve your product or service and increase your advertising budget accordingly... then you will see even a greater explosion in your profits.

One more thing that I want to add that can really help you would be to also start using other powerful marketing and advertising resources to compliment the Newspaper classified ad campaigns, so that you diversify your overall exposure to continuously bring in 1,000s of visitors to your business.
